Maintenance and Lifespan of LED Panels: Everything You Need to Know

LED panels have no tubes to replace and no fragile exposed components. Their maintenance is virtually nonexistent: this is one of their advantages over fluorescent systems. However, there are a few points to know to extend their lifespan and respond in the event of a problem.

Lifespan: what 50,000 hours means

L70: the standard indicator

L70 means that the panel retains at least 70% of its initial luminous flux after 50,000 hours. Below 70%, brightness becomes bothersome for most professional applications. Most users do not notice the decrease in luminous flux before the L70 point.

In actual hours of use

Daily use Days/year Lifespan
8 hours/day (office) 250 25 years
10 hours/day (retail) 300 16.7 years
16 hours/day (restaurant) 350 8.9 years

Maintenance: what to do and what to avoid

Cleaning the diffuser

For standard panels (white diffuser) as well as printed decorative panels:

  • Do: a slightly damp microfiber cloth, clean water
  • Avoid: abrasive products, solvents, strong alcohol, water jets
  • Frequency: 1 to 2 times a year (dust on the ceiling), except in specific environments (kitchen, workshop)

The aluminum frame

Wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth. The aluminum frame does not rust, but it may develop a gray patina in dusty environments. A microfiber cloth is sufficient.

Faults: diagnosis and action

The panel no longer lights up

  1. Check the circuit breaker for the line
  2. Check the Wago connection (wire properly tightened, with at least 8 mm of stripped wire inserted)
  3. Test with a working panel on the same circuit
  4. If the panel is defective: Sunshine Panel after-sales service (3-year warranty, free replacement)

The panel is flickering

Regular flickering: incompatibility with the dimmer (unsupported protocol or a Triac dimmer used instead of DALI/0-10V). Check the dimmer’s compatibility.

Irregular flickering: intermittent connection (Wago connector not tightened properly) or driver failure (warranty after-sales service).

FAQ

How long does an LED panel last?

Sunshine Panel LED panels are guaranteed for 50,000 L70 hours. L70 means that the panel retains at least 70% of its initial luminous flux after 50,000 hours. At 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, and 50 weeks per year, this represents a 25-year lifespan. In practice, most users will replace the panel for aesthetic or technological reasons before the end of its service life.

How do you clean a decorative printed LED panel?

To clean the printed diffuser of a Sunshine Panel LED panel, use a slightly damp microfiber cloth (clean water). Absolutely avoid abrasive products, solvents (acid, strong alcohol), and water jets. For stubborn dirt (fingerprints, greasy dust), a microfiber cloth with a drop of diluted dishwashing liquid (1% in water) works perfectly. Do not use high-pressure cleaning.

What should you do if an LED panel no longer lights up?

In the event of a complete failure (the panel no longer lights up): (1) check the circuit breaker and the Wago connection; (2) test another working panel on the same circuit to isolate the fault; (3) if the panel is defective under warranty (less than 3 years), contact Sunshine Panel Customer Service with your order number. Replacement is covered, including shipping costs.
