Installing 60×60 LED panels: a practical 5-step guide
Share
Your T-bar suspended ceiling is already fitted. You want to replace fluorescent panels with LED panels without calling an electrician. This is possible, provided you follow the right steps and check two or three points before starting.
Step 1: check your framework’s compatibility
The standard T-bar suspended ceiling
The 60x60 format is universal: compatible with almost all T-bar frameworks on the market (Knauf, Promat, Armstrong...). Check that the framework has 600x600 mm square openings (not 625x625 mm, which is reserved for the British market). Measure the opening, not the panel itself.
The BA13 suspended ceiling or unfinished concrete ceiling
No T-bar? No problem. You need a surface-mount kit (see step 2b). Installation is slightly different but remains straightforward.
Step 2: choose the mounting method
2a. T-bar clipping (existing suspended ceiling)
The panel fits into the opening and is held in place by four clips on the framework. Installation time: 10 to 15 minutes. No special tools required. Connection: the existing 220V cable (which powered the previous panel) connects to the Wago connector integrated into the panel.
2b. Surface-mount kit (unfinished ceiling)
The kit is attached to the ceiling (4 screws and wall plugs), after which the panel clips into the frame. Plan for an exposed 220V cable or conduit. Installation time: 20 to 30 minutes.
2c. Suspension (large spaces)
Suspension cables (2 or 4 points) allow you to suspend the panel below the ceiling. Ideal for high ceilings (>3.5 m), where direct lighting would be too far from the work surface.
Step 3: wiring and connection
Sunshine Panel panels come with an integrated driver and a standard Wago connector. The wiring consists of just two wires: live (brown) and neutral (blue). No earth wire is required (the panel is Class II, double-insulated). If you have a dimmer, install it between the circuit breaker and the panel, following the supported protocol (DALI, PUSH-DIM, 0-10V).
Step 4: powering on and testing
Before closing the suspended ceiling, switch on the power and check: uniform lighting, no flickering, and no buzzing (a sign of dimmer incompatibility). If the panel flickers, check the dimmer’s compatibility and the Wago connections (the wire must be firmly secured over at least 8 mm of stripped wire).
Step 5: finishing and maintenance
LED panels require no special maintenance (there are no tubes to replace). In the event of a failure, the 3-year warranty covers replacement of the unit. For decorative panels, avoid abrasive cleaning products on the printed diffuser (a dry microfiber cloth is sufficient).

FAQ
Can you install a 60x60 LED panel yourself?
Yes, for T-bar false ceilings (already equipped with a 220V power supply), replacing an existing panel with a Sunshine Panel LED panel requires no specific electrical skills. The connection is standard: a pre-wired two-wire connector (live/neutral). For a new installation involving the creation of an electrical network, hire a qualified electrician.
How do you mount an LED panel without a T-bar false ceiling?
Without a T-bar false ceiling, use a surface-mount kit (a metal frame secured to the solid ceiling with screws) or a cable suspension system. The panel fits directly into the kit. Sunshine Panel offers surface-mount kits compatible with the entire 60x60 range. Installation takes 20 to 30 minutes without modifying the ceiling.
Can an LED panel be dimmed (brightness adjusted)?
Yes, provided you have a compatible dimmer (DALI, PUSH-DIM, or 0-10V, depending on the panel). Sunshine Panel panels support all three protocols. A standard Triac dimmer (used for incandescent bulbs) is not compatible and may damage the panel. Always check the dimmer's compatibility before installation.
