Meeting Room: Create the Ideal Atmosphere with LED Lighting

Your meeting room has a problem: the screen is unreadable under the current lighting, or participants look pale during video conferences. Meeting room lighting is not a minor detail: it determines the quality of presentations, screen visibility, and participant comfort.

The specific requirements of a meeting room

General lighting

500 lux at the work surface, 4,000 K, CRI 90. These are the minimum requirements of the EN 12464-1 standard for conference rooms. In practice: 2 to 4 LED panels 60x60 depending on the room size (typically 10 to 30 m²).

Dimming

A multipurpose meeting room requires adjustable lighting: full output for standing presentations, 30–40% for video projection, and gradual dimming during group work sessions. Sunshine Panel panels support DALI, PUSH-DIM, and 0–10V.

Video conferencing

For rooms equipped with a camera, front lighting is key: the light sources must be aligned with the camera (on the ceiling, facing the participants). Side spotlights create asymmetrical shadows that are unflattering on camera. Uniformly distributed ceiling panels are the most natural solution for video.

Installation strategy according to the layout

Room with a T-bar suspended ceiling

Direct replacement of the existing panels (15 min/panel). Add a DALI dimmer controlled by a switch or tablet. Option: 1 Ciel Lumineux decorative panel in the center to reduce the “office” feel and make the room more welcoming.

Room without a suspended ceiling (plasterboard or concrete)

Surface-mounted or cable-suspended kit. The surface-mounted kit (a metal frame attached to the ceiling) can be installed in 20–30 minutes. The suspension (1- to 2-m cables) is ideal for rooms with high ceilings.

The special case of rooms with glass partitions

In open-plan offices with glass-walled meeting rooms, the room’s lighting is visible from outside. A decorative ceiling panel in the meeting room (visible from the open-plan office through the glass) creates a positive, distinctive aesthetic effect. It is a detail that does not go unnoticed.

FAQ

What lighting level is required for a meeting room?

EN 12464-1 recommends 500 lux at the work surface for meeting and conference rooms. For rooms with a projection screen, use dimmable lighting: 500 lux for standing presentations and 200 lux for projection (to reduce glare on the screen). A DALI LED panel enables real-time adjustment.

Can LED panels be installed in an existing meeting room?

Yes, if the room has a standard 60x60 T-bar false ceiling, replacing the existing panels with Sunshine Panel LED panels takes 15 minutes per panel, with no modification to the ceiling grid or wiring. For rooms with plasterboard or concrete ceilings, a surface-mounting kit or cable suspension is required.

Is special lighting necessary for video conferences?

For video conferences, front lighting (aligned with the camera) is essential: it eliminates shadows under the eyes and ensures a natural appearance on screen. 4,000 K LED panels installed in the ceiling facing the participants are sufficient for professional image quality. Avoid side lighting, which creates asymmetrical shadows.
